Mission
To provide guidance, resources and a solid, seamless educational curriculum model for future educators, that is responsive to a diverse and dynamic educational environment.
History
For the past ten years Teacher Training/Education has created programs which have provided classes, guidance and resources to diverse groups of students including teachers, future teachers, paraprofessionals, high school students and their parents. Dual high school/college credit for high school students, college classes toward an AA degree, as well as classes which led to an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement are examples of what has been offered through these efforts.
Seattle Central's Teacher Training/Education program has had partnerships with Seattle and Auburn Public Schools, as well as several institutions involved in teacher training including Western Washington University, University of Washington and Green River Community College. The program has also been involved with the Higher Education Coordinting Board, Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Community and Technical colleges, as well as national associations on projects related to education and teacher training.
In 2001 the department formerly known as Project EDIT Title VII program evolved into what is now Teacher Training/Education Programs. Involved in Washington state as well as national teacher training reform efforts, the area became more broadly focused on the community college's role in recruiting and training future teachers.
